Voith Fluid Coupling
Voith fluid coupling is a flexible transmission device that transmits power using the kinetic energy of fluid. It is widely used in industries such as power, metallurgy, mining, petrochemicals, textiles and papermaking, construction materials, locomotives, and shipbuilding.
The Variable speed fluid coupling is suitable for high-power, high-energy-consumption, long-term operation equipment requiring frequent speed adjustments, such as fans, pumps, belt conveyors, mixers, ball mills, crushers, boiler feed pumps, and centrifugal compressors. Furthermore, it is commonly used in automotive transmissions, wind turbines, and lifting machinery to achieve soft starts, continuously variable transmission (CVT), and overload protection.
Working Principle

Variable speed fluid couplings mainly consist of a pump impeller (active), a turbine (driven), a housing, and working oil. The two components are arranged facing each other with a small gap, forming an annular cavity. When the prime mover drives the pump impeller to rotate, the blades throw the working oil towards the edge, giving it kinetic and pressure energy. The high-speed oil flow impacts the turbine blades, driving the turbine to rotate in the same direction, thereby driving the load to rotate. After energy exchange, the oil flows back from the inside of the turbine to the pump impeller, forming a continuous circulation, achieving contactless transfer of mechanical energy → fluid kinetic energy → mechanical energy. Its output torque is approximately equal to the input torque, but a speed difference (slip rate) exists. Efficiency increases as the speed difference decreases, but it does not have torque amplification capability.
