1. Increased Pressure Inside the Oil Tank
Within a sealed gearbox, friction generated by the meshing of each pair of gears produces heat. According to Boyle's Law, as operating time increases, the internal temperature of the gearbox gradually rises; since the internal volume of the gearbox remains constant, the internal pressure increases correspondingly. The lubricating oil inside the gearbox is splashed and dispersed onto the inner walls of the casing. Due to the high penetrability of the oil-and driven by the internal pressure-leakage will occur wherever a seal is not sufficiently tight.
2. Oil Leakage Caused by Flawed Structural Design
For instance, if the gearbox design lacks a vent cap, the unit cannot equalize internal and external pressures; this causes the internal pressure to build up excessively, ultimately leading to oil leakage.
3. Excessive Oil Filling
During gearbox operation, the oil sump is subjected to vigorous agitation, causing the lubricating oil to splash throughout the interior of the machine. If the oil fill level is excessive, large quantities of lubricant will accumulate at critical points-such as shaft seals and joint interfaces-thereby triggering leakage.
4. Improper Maintenance Procedures
During equipment maintenance, oil leakage can result from various procedural errors, such as the incomplete removal of contaminants from joint surfaces, the use of inappropriate sealants, the incorrect orientation of sealing components during installation, or a failure to replace worn seals in a timely manner.
